Luminate Widget Test

Greetings Robot Sonic Readers! We have BIG plans, but sadly it takes lots of money to make it happen. Which is why we are testing the Luminate widget.

Placing the Luminate widget on any website or blog adds a button to any picture over 200px x 200px, converting the it into an interactive picture. With Luminate you’re able to share pictures by email and social media. You can actually make annotations on images too. The only other place I’ve seen annotations is on Flickr and Amazon Images.

Luminate has a few features to earn revenue. If you’re an Amazon affiliate users can purchase items found in the photo and you can get a cut of the sale. Also the expected targeted text ads that will pop up when the cursor hovers over the ad.

Some other things Luminate embeds is Youtube, Amazon MP3, Netflix, Bing, Wikipedia and a few more. One trick Luminate if the picture is familiar, say a picture of J-Lo, it will display all information related to J-Lo. Pretty smart.

What’s not smart is the potential for copyright infringement and getting paid for it. That’s going to be a terrible court battle, if it does happen. You’d think Google would’ve already gotten in this game. Luminate could be the next company Google buys.

Most of Luminate’s features can be recreated by a little html or java, getting paid for it though I’m not sure of. We’ll see how our test goes, here’s a hint if you see the Luminate button after a week, it’s a keeper. If you don’t see it, then you know we’re not sell outs.
