The Good, The Bad, The QR

Robot Sonic QROk There’s Google, Bing, Yahoo, and tons of little search engines for an individual to find what they need to know.  So when my friend told me, people don’t know what QR codes are and how to use them… I was like WAHHH…. Dude just Google it! By him supplying that statement, he already put in his mind that it is a ineffective marketing tool.  Which is Totally the opposite.  The Quick Response Code (QR Code) is just cool and super easy to use.  All you need is a smartphone equipped with a camera and qr code scanning software.  Done! The phone takes care of the rest.

I’m all about early adopting, not only have I used QR codes on my business card way before people starting knowing about them, basically it was a completely useless for me at the time to even place it on there.  But fast forward now, my business card makes me appear ahead of the trend and willing to take risks.  And now you’ll find hundreds of magazines have featured QR codes in there ads and you’ll find them on street billboards, websites, lots of traditional marketing brochures will insert the QR code some in there.

So really if you want to know what’s the big deal is just grab your smartphone go to the market or app store and search qr code scanner and take a look at all your options.  Still not sure which one to use??? Then google “best qr code reader…” for android, iphone, blackberry, or whatever your poison is. After you’ve decided, install it on your phone and scan my little code I have on this post and enjoy reading the world’s best tech blog *Insert Robot Voice* ROBOT SONIC!

Android uses QR codes to its maximum potential, many websites features native and 3rd party apps with a QR code on the page so you can install the app right from the page.  Android also has more QR scanning apps and just knows how to handle the data better… but I could be bias on that statement as I own an Android!  What’s next you say?  As I stated in my previous post NFC is the new big thing and it could very well replace QR codes, at least as a close up marketing tool… but that Victoria’s Secret highway billboard QR Code will always add an extra 25 minutes to your commute.  AR Tags or Augmented Reality Tags are like a 3D QR Code… remind me to write about AR Tags later… that’s really something most people really have never heard or seen before.

Anyway if you have a new thing you’d like to promote use traditional and alternative methods whatever it takes to get your clients talking!
